Team New York Aquatics (TNYA) is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment where all individuals are treated with respect. All TNYA members are to follow the policies listed below. They apply to every TNYA member, including coaches, gatekeepers, board members, general members and representatives. If you feel you have been the victim of harassment, have witnessed harassment, or the violation of any of the policies listed below, please mail@tnya.org. Your feedback will be kept confidential and directed to the appropriate board members for resolution.

  1. Team members engaging in harassment or discriminatory behavior while participating in team activities may be barred from future team participation. Harassment is any conduct that creates a hostile or threatening environment. Discrimination is treating someone different based on the group, class, or category to which the person belongs, whether actual or perceived, rather than on individual attributes. Discriminatory harassment is behavior that includes, but is not limited to, comments, name-calling, threats, unwanted physical or sexual contact, or other conduct that intentionally demeans a person based on one’s personal characteristics, such as sexual orientation, gender identity, race, age, color, religion, national origin, race, ethnicity, gender, marital status, political belief, economic status, profession, physical appearance, athletic ability, or physical/mental disability.
  2. TNYA members will comply at all times with member policies, by-laws, rules and regulations of TNYA, as adopted and amended from time to time, and with any contracts or agreements executed by TNYA. Members can find these documents, as well as our complete mission statement, on our website.
  3. TNYA prioritizes the safety of its members. At practices, follow all safety instructions given by the coach on deck and the facility in which the practice is held. During physically interactive events such as water polo events, open water swims, or any situation where people could be injured, all participants are to avoid excessive physical contact and should act to ease tensions and de-escalate conflict. Any intentional actions that could result in pain or injury to another person are forbidden at all times. The full policy on excessive physical contact in water polo can be read at this link.
  4. All TNYA members have a responsibility to also adhere to the main principles of our umbrella organizations including USMS, USA Water Polo, USA Diving, and USA Synchro.
