JJC Saturdays Gain Another Workout

Because the low-pressure zone has been such a runaway hit, we're giving it the full 5 lanes at JJC every Saturday at 12:30. To make room, we're happy to announce the creation of a 1:30-3PM practice. Starting June 8, all clinics will be held during this new workout.

But the LPZ wasn't the only success we had recently we want to build on. We've also received tons of good reaction to the Ladies Only workout we had a couple months back, and so we're going to make that a regular event as well: first workout of each month will be a women's workout, coached by rotating members of the TNYA coaching staff.

In short: first practice of the month, women's workout; all others, clinics. Saturday, 1:30-3, JJC. See you there.

Social Events on Your Horizon

Hey, folks! Your social committee is already looking forward to the latter half of the year, putting together a mess of events for which we don't yet have confirmed dates. We can't put them on our calendar yet, but we thought you'd be excited to hear about them now. They are:

June: Trivia Night Looking for a different kind of TNYA event? We'll be mixing things up by competing on dry land this time with trivia, food and fun!
July: Diving Expo/IGLA Send-Off Party
August: Guerilla TNYA Bar Night Join your TNYA teammates as we 'crash' an unsuspecting bar in our finest TNYA team wear.
September: Porno Bingo Fundraiser Host Will Clark will be spinning his Bingo balls to help us raise money for our teams.
October: Happy Hour
November: Happy Hour
December: Annual Banquet You'd better believe we're doing it again this year.

As things firm up, we'll put them with the other confirmed social events, meets, and other dates of interest on the calendar.

A Friendly Reminder

Please remember that the only diving that should happen at a swim practice is off the blocks, under direct coach supervision. In other words, never, ever dive off the deck into the pool. Doing so violates our contract with our host facilities and also voids our liability coverage with USMS. Both of these things are bad and could put this team in serious hot water. So please -- don't. Yes, even you.

Diving at diving practice is, of course, encouraged. But even then you have to do it off the boards.

Help the Fortoul Fellowships Help Your Teammates

As the economy continues to tank, TNYA is seeing an increasing number of swimmers swim less -- or stop swimming altogether -- because they have become unemployed. The team's Fortoul Fellowship program is there to help prevent that from happening; but for it to do so, it needs your help.

If you still have a job, please consider making a donation to the Fortoul Fellowship. Perhaps a bit of that tax refund, the savings from a few bypassed cosmos or the proceeds from your recent eBay sale could be directed to this worthy cause. Please bear in mind that decreased attendance at practices could cause our current luxurious schedule of 19 swim workouts per week in 4 pools to undergo downsizing. And nobody wants that, do they?

The board is currently making plans to raise funds for the Fellowship in new, long-term ways. Stay tuned for future developments. But until that produces some revenue, we are asking for your help to see us through the next couple of quarters. Contributions to the Fellowship go 100% to helping swimmers and are fully tax-deductible. There are no administrative costs.

To make a contribution, e-mail Team Admin Mark D'Ambrosi and let him know how much you'd like to donate -- it will be charged against the credit card we have on file. You can also hand a check made out to TNYA, with "Fortoul Fellowship" in the memo line, to a gatekeeper to send in for you, or snail-mail a check to Mark at the address listed on the contacts page
